Esther Burnham, formerly Esther Furrer, has more than two decades of experience working in the nonprofit and government sectors. With proven skills in financial forecasting, project management, and organizational leadership, she recently served as the assistant superintendent of finance for El Paso Education Initiative, Inc. In her free time, Esther Burnham remains active in her Greater Austin community and is a member of the Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX).
Dedicated to helping girls discover their passions and talents, Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) relies heavily on support from volunteers. Adults who volunteer with GSCTX serve as mentors and guides to help girls develop skills and confidence. Volunteers have the freedom to make flexible schedules and can work with the organization for an hour, a day, or even once a month depending on what fits with their schedule. Interested individuals can volunteer as local troop leaders, help with events and programs, or assist with data entry and other tasks at GSCTX service centers.
There are several other ways volunteers can support GSCTX depending on their interests. Those volunteers hoping to work directly with the girls can volunteer as trip advisors, service unit directors, archery instructors, or girl volunteer trainers. Meanwhile, volunteers wanting to work with other adults can help with everything from adult volunteer training to event coordination. They can also focus their efforts more on the community by working as camp maintenance volunteers or recruitment coordinators.
