Esther Burnham studied economics and government at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a bachelor of arts in 1991. Since then, she has gained extensive experience in strategic planning and providing financial leadership to organizations, two of which are in her native El Paso, Texas. The former Esther Furrer most recently served as assistant superintendent of finance for El Paso Education Initiative Inc. Throughout her career, Esther Burnham has also been eager to support charitable foundations, including Communities in Schools.
Communities in Schools (CIS) provides students with a community of support, encouraging them to stay in school and helping them to achieve success in their lives. The foundation allows people to assist by donating, advocating, or volunteering. Donations help to support children in need while advocating involves talking to legislators about, for example, the dropout crisis. Dedicated volunteers make it possible for CIS to reach over a million students each year.
